Snip Removal of Skin Tags

Skin tags are common, acquired benign skin growths that look a lot like a small piece of soft, hanging skin. Skin tags are harmless growths and can be snipped (after numbing by local anesthesia) in our office quickly and with very little pain.

Cautery

Cauterization can be used to treat or diminish the appearance of benign lesions such as sebaceous hyperplasia or cherry angiomas. Cherry angiomas and sebaceous hyperplasia are simply overgrowths of blood vessels and oil glands, respectively. While neither are dangerous, they can be cosmetically unattractive.

Liquid Nitrogen

Liquid nitrogen is used to quickly freeze common benign lesions such as small skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, and brown spots. Depending on the size of the growths, a second treatment or shaving of the lesion may be required to completely eliminate the lesion. Patients can expect the spot to appear red for 7-10 days, and then fall off.

Cosmetic Removal of Benign Moles

These lesions can be removed under local anesthesia by shave biopsy. Commonly, Dr. Schaberg will need to evaluate the mole/moles first to determine if they can be removed cosmetically. The specimens will be sent to pathology for mandatory examination.

Laser Nail Fungus

Laser treatments for nail fungus can be as effective as topical or oral treatments and can be used without side effects. Using the laser power of our GentleYAG® system, we can safely and effectively treat fungus under fingernails and toenails. It is especially good for treating resistant fungus species, such as saprophytes.

Our procedure uses safe, quick bursts of laser energy to heat the infected tissue and directly target the pathogens that cause fungus to grow underneath the nail. The treatment has been proven effective in more than 85% of patients surveyed. Patients may experience some discomfort during the laser treatment, which usually resolves shortly after the procedure. We can work with you to manage any discomfort you feel.

Several treatments four to six weeks apart are recommended. Your new nail will begin to form within three to six months following your treatment sessions, and a healthy, clear toenail should be completely grown in within a year; fingernails are even faster.

Laser Tattoo Removal

We offer the Medlite C6 laser for tattoo removal. It has 755nm, 532nm, and 1064nm wavelengths that treat a broader range of tattoo colors. When appropriate, we can use the Harvard developed R20 protocol to achieve the best, quickest results.

The number of sessions is dictated by the colors involved, as well as the size of the tattoo. The area to be treated is anesthetized by a topical numbing cream to minimize the pain.

Laser Hair Removal

For comfortable permanent hair reduction for all skin types, Schaberg Dermatology employs GentleLase® and GentleYAG® lasers to deliver Gentle Hair Removal™. There are numerous laser hair removal options, but in hair removal, technology matters. GentleLase and GentleYag are the gold standard in effectiveness. Gentle Hair Removal can be used to treat just a few hairs in a small area to a large area in need of attention. The GentleLase and GentleYAG lasers allow us to treat all skin types, from light to dark.

Laser Hair Removal with the Gentle Touch

Our Gentle laser systems create a beam of high intensity light that penetrates deep into skin tissue, where it delivers a controlled amount of targeted therapeutic heat; this damages the hair follicle to prevent future growth. The patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ protects and soothes the upper layers of skin with a cooling burst of cryogen with each laser pulse. The GentleYag is also very effective in the treatment of pseudofolliculits barbae (PFB), often known as shaving bumps, and hidradenitis suppurativa (HS).

Preparing for Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Because hair follicles grow at different rates and will be in different phases of the growth cycle, more than one treatment will be necessary to obtain complete results. Patients should prepare for their laser treatments in advance. Sun exposure should be avoided, as recently tanned skin cannot be treated. Avoid waxing, plucking or bleaching for a minimum of two weeks before treatment. The area to be treated should be freshly shaved and clean of any creams, lotions or make-up (including lipstick and deodorant).

Chemical Peels Deliver Safe and Effective Skin Rejuvenation

Chemical peels use a specially formulated chemical solution to remove damaged skin layers, forcing the skin to regenerate itself. As the skin heals, a clear, younger-looking complexion is revealed. Treatments are safe, but we advise you to be cautious with sun exposure afterwards. Keeping out of direct sunlight will prevent uneven pigmentation and help keep your post-treatment skin healthy.

What to Expect with Chemical Peel Treatments

Chemical peels can help you see a dramatic reduction in the appearance of sun spots and age spots. In addition, chemical peels help improve the appearance of acne, acne scars and irregularities in your skin’s pigmentation.

Most patients will experience a mild sunburn-like reaction with redness and peeling for the 24-48 hours after a peel, the severity of which is dependent on the strength of the peel performed. The experts at Schaberg Dermatology can formulate your chemical peel so that it is as mild on the skin as possible while still being effective.

After treatment, experience improvement in skin texture and tone, while lessening the appearance of superficial lines. More dramatic results are provided with a series of peels followed by monthly maintenance peels.

Microderm & Clinical Extractions

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure that gradually removes the outer skin layers in the targeted area. This continues until the treated area is level with the rest of the skin.

You may experience some redness and swelling following microdermabrasion, and your skin may be flaky and dry for several days. In addition, you may be more sensitive to sun exposure. Be sure to apply sunscreen following your microdermabrasion treatment. A series of 6 treatments is recommended, followed by monthly maintenance treatments.

Manual extractions of clogged pores are done by a skin care professional.

V-Beam Laser

V-Beam laser is used to treat facial redness, blood vessels, and more. The pulsed dye laser system uses an intense but gentle beam of light to safely and effectively deliver dramatic results in the treatment of the redness of rosacea, blood vessels, cherry angiomas, hemangiomas, port wine stains, and some stretch marks. Multiple treatments may be necessary.

Intense Pulsed Light

Intensed Pulsed Light (IPL) technology for a range of skin treatments. With little or no downtime, multiple complexion problems are addressed by a single treatment. Absorption of light energy into skin fades redness and shrinks dilated blood vessels. Brown spots are exfoliated and skin texture is refined. An average of two to four treatments is recommended.

Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as microchanneling, provides a unique and painless skin rejuvenation alternative to fractional lasers. In addition to microneedles, the system uses a combination of other rejuvenating technologies to provide improved topical infusion and collagen stimulation.

Microneedling Treats a Multitude of Conditions

Microneedling was originally developed to treat scarring, including mild to moderate acne scars, some surgical scars and stretch marks. However, it is also used to effectively treat enlarged pores and hyperpigmentation, as well as delivering general skin rejuvenation.

Our precision-controlled hand piece uses vacuum suction to gently bring the skin into contact with the microneedle roller, which then penetrates the skin at a uniform depth just above the capillaries and nerve endings to ensure no pain or bleeding—and very little downtime. The microchannels created are now pathways used to introduce the infusion of rejuvenating solutions into the skin—into the areas most beneficial to the natural rejuvenating process.

Pixel Resurfacing Laser

Life changes your skin. The Alma Pixel Erbium Fractional Resurfacing Laser can help restore it. Reverse years of sun damage, wrinkles or acne scarring and achieve fresh, healthy skin of your youth. Pixel improves pigmented lesions such as age spots and sun spots on the face, neck, chest, back, hands, and arms, while smoothing wrinkles and acne scars with amazing safety. One will make a difference, but a series of 3-6 is recommended. Expect 2-3 days of redness and peeling afterwards.

Secret RF

Secret RF is a novel fractional radio frequency (RF) microneedling system for tissue coagulation and hemostasis designed to stimulate and remodel collagen in the skin and address the common signs of aging. It is ideally suited for use on patients who wish to revitalize and refresh the appearance of their skin on all skin types. By adjusting the micro-needles, Secret RF can deliver energy at various depths, so that treatments can be tailored to address each patient’s individual concerns. There is minimal to no downtime.
